Brightbooks flashlight is a simple flashlight app that lets you donate a fully functional solar LED light to a child in need. Every time someone buys the app, they help sponsor Solar LED lights for a children and families in Indian villages without electricity.
What we do-
- Here at BrightBooks, we try to alleviate rural lighting problems by distributing our renewable solar-powered BrightLight (see more info on website- inbrightbooks.weebly.com)
- We will donate these lights with help from our logistics partner- Vikekananda Samiti and our manufacturing partner - Thrive Solar Energy.
What YOU get-
- We will post pictures of the people you helped with your generous donation. You will be able to see the heart-warming smile you created.
Need for a solution
- Demographics- An astonishing 300 million people in India lack electricity. This is around a quarter of the world's population without electricity. Countless children in this demographic have no clean source of light to read or study at night resulting in higher rates of illiteracy in the Indian rural population.
- Health- The only solution to the lighting problem these un-electrified villages have is the kerosene lamp. Kerosene fumes , however, are hazardous to human health. Breathing the fumes long-term could result in neurological or kidney damage, including blood clots that damage the brain, heart or other organs. Widespread usage is greatly reducing the average life span of a villager.
- Pollution- The kerosene lamp, as well as, other sources of electricity currently in place result in an irreversible damage to the environment. From local ecology to the ozone, a myriad of nature's treasures are being destroyed.
